About

Ayur  (Life) – Veda (Science) ~ means Science of Life or the way to living a balanced and long life in harmony with nature.

Ayurveda is a system of medicine developed in ancient India and nurtured by scholars who passed knowledge down verbally as sutras (or poems) until the first written textbooks circa 1500 BC.

Rooted in the natural rhythms and cycles of the Earth, Ayurveda has a timelessness to it where it can be applied anywhere and for anybody. As globalization and modernization spread so too does Ayurveda on a basis of sound philosophy, methodology and practice.

It is believed to be a safer system of medicine as it is free from side effects and closer to nature. Ayurveda, the complementary alternative, sits well beside Allopathic systems and assists and enhances whilst bringing benefits rather than competition to other modalities.

Ayurveda is considered the expression of living wisdom or “Vidya” alore of living that expresses the power of nature to heal and promote health.

As Practitioners of Ayurveda we are charged with a duty, we are indebted to this living wisdom, to spread its reach to those who are ready to receive it, in return for its rich fulfillment in our personal lives.

There is so much to be learned from Ayurveda every day, essentially, we live by the cycles and seasons as they did in 1500 BC. We can utilize and benefit from Ayurveda’s sustainable, ecological living philosophy.

I was born and raised in the farming community of Greenhills / York along with my four siblings. I married and raised four children, moving between farming and partners’ defence force roles before opening my successful restaurant in Bremer Bay, WA.

Upon divorce some 25 years ago, I became a single mother and relocated, after a few eye-opening years in the northern territory, eventually to Geraldton in 1999 where I have resided since.

I began my holistic journey over 20 years ago and in 2015 I completed the RYT200 instructors’ course with Sadhana Yoga, and in 2018 I completed an Advanced Diploma in Ayurveda and also studied a Diploma in Remedial Massage graduating in 2019.

In January 2018 I founded Ayurveda Wellness Centre Midwest and in 2019 I began co-facilitating retreats under my branding with other holistic businesses to bring awareness to complementary alternative health options available locally in Geraldton, culminating in the foundation of Midwest Wellness Retreats and Ananda Tea Spice & Chai.

Ayurveda?

Why

My childhood was shaped and influenced by my mother’s bipolar diagnosis and as a result of her frequent hospitalizations, I was left with feelings of abandonment, anxiety, loss, and depression as a child & adult.

In 2012 I personally experienced extreme grief and loss after the death of my eldest sibling due to suicide.   We were extremely close and my grief consumed me after his passing. It was not until I overheard my youngest child, a teenager at the time, say to his friend "I’m worried about mum and scared she might hurt herself too”, that I realized I needed to take action and find health and happiness again. I found it difficult if not impossible to find the right resources locally relating to suicide and the effect on the surviving families, with most support practitioners being over 400km away in our capital city.

I eventually found a 6-day workshop over east and was introduced to Yoga, Ayurveda, and Psychotherapy, and then I began my journey of health and self-understanding, culminating in the foundation of my Ayurveda businesses and my endeavors to bring a complementary holistic, option for physical and mental health to the Midwest.

I love meeting new people and helping them reach their goals. 2023 brings the return of workshops and retreats post-Covid-19 in both local and international destinations - stay tuned for more details. I joyously welcome you to Ayurveda Wellness Centre Midwest and welcome you to book your initial consultation via this link.
